Paul Palumbo

Paul’s basic Biography:

Paul M. Palumbo is a professional musician and educator. Specializing in performing in a diverse range of guitar styles, Paul is noted as the top caliber guitarists and educator in and around the Baltimore, MD area. He is qualified and comfortable in all playing styles. Whatever the situation: classical, jazz, rock, pop, metal, country or fusion, Paul fits in with ease.

Paul as an educator:

Paul has twenty-two years teaching experience. From 1995-2000, Paul served as a guitar Instructor at Mars Music, located in Parkville, Md. While working at MARS, Paul providing one-on-one lessons as well as group classroom guitar. During his tenure as group instructor, Paul created a curriculum for the beginner’s guitar class levels 1 and 2 and publishing a workbook to teach all basic notation methods which included: chord charts; lead sheets; scale charts; standard notation; and tablature (TAB).

Currently Paul provides one-on-one, in-your-home, private and small group instruction on guitar, banjo, mandolin, ukulele, and bass guitar.  

Paul’s teaching style is based on inquiring about the student’s musical goals, then tailoring lesson plans to help them achieve their aspirations. Whether you strive to strum your favorite songs around the campfire, compose and record your original music, or shred like some of the world’s greatest guitarists, Paul is equipped with the knowledge, curriculum, and skill to help you achieve your dream.

Paul’s History as a Performer:

Paul began his career as a member of the Essex Community College Jazz Plus Group and the Classical Guitar Ensemble in the mid 1990’s. During this time, he also was a member of the original pop music band named North. The group was well received and played many local gigs in clubs such as Fletcher’s in Fells Point, Md. and the Recher Theater in Towson, Md.

From 1997 to 2001, Paul played lead guitar with the successful pop band Liquid Morning, of which he was one of the two founding members. The band performed regular shows at dozens of local restaurants and bars around Maryland. Including Claddagh Pub in Canton, Md., The Horse You Came in On in Fells Point, Md. and Nottingham’s in Columbia, Md. In 2001, The band released a EP album titled “See Forever”. After the release of the album, Paul moved on to work with newer projects.

From 2001 to 2002, Paul played with local favorite The Solution. The band kept a regular gigging schedule in and around the Essex and Baltimore Md. area.

From 2002 to 2004, Paul worked with Sometimes Jerome. The band had a busy touring and recording schedule in and around the Baltimore Md. area as well as Northern Virginia and Ocean City Md.

From 2004 to 2006, Paul was lead guitarist for the touring band Alan Has Radar. The band held a very busy touring schedule playing clubs along the eastern sea board from Bethany beach, Delaware to Kitty Hawk, N.C. The group also played in and around the Baltimore Md. area, the Northern and central Virginia areas, West Virginia and the Washington D.C. area.

Currently, Paul is a member of three separate, successful bands that show his diversity in musical style. The bands are The Kevin Buttry Band, which plays popular music from the 60’s through modern folk rock.  Qi Lo, which is a modern rock cover band playing music from the 80’s through modern radio hits, and the Kate Fleming duo playing popular radio hits that span from the 50’s through the 2000’s, as well as jazz, blues and traditional folk music. Each group keep a busy touring schedule in and around the Baltimore area.

Along with working in the band scene, Paul has also gained a reputation for his work on the solo classical guitarist. He currently plays classical and jazz contemporary solo guitar for private engagements and corporate events.

Paul’s Education and Awards:

Paul’s education includes degree work in music performance, music theory and education from Essex Community College and Towson University. Paul was awarded the instrumentalist of the year Award at Essex Community College for the academic year of 1995. That same year, he was selected as one of 3 performers out of 52 auditions to perform at the coveted honors music concert through the university. Lastly, Paul was the recipient of a partial scholarship as a classical guitar performance major at Towson University in 1995.
